Nose: Full and pungent with an earthy smokiness and fresh hints of ozone.

Amazingly, my tasting notes for the weaker version are exactly the same as for this sea facing monster. Except here the enormity has risen up by a significant factor, as has the intensity of each vital cog in its make-up. Perhaps the only change is the honey thread to the sweetness that pervades throughout. Otherwise, identical. A wonderous, take it with you when you die malt that is easily a contender for whisky of the year.

Nose: A think chunk of peat has been dissolved in my glass.
Taste: The oil –peat-barley balance is spot on as is the bitter sweet tone: just stunning.
Finish: The peat dissipates slowly to leave a slightly bitterish oaky influence but the spices compensate.

The ancient name of whisky given by the Scots to this fiery spirit. Usquaebach is Scotch whisky. The people of Scotland have been making ‘Uisge Beatha’ or ‘Usquaebach’ since the early 1500’s. Usquaebach Old-Rare Superior Blend is comprised of 41 exceptional Single Malt Scotch whiskies and 2 of the Highland’s finest Grain whiskies. This superior blend offers multi-layered opulence on the palate; concentrated flavours of pepper, coffee, and sherry dazzle the taste buds. The sublime mid-palate and long, heavenly aftertaste are remarkably balanced, supple and graceful.
Usquaebach ‘The Reserve’ – Is the name derived from the ancient Gaelic (Original Scots language) phrase, “uisge beatha” meaning water of life. It is the Gaelic words from which the word “whisky” comes from. Robert Burns, ‘Scotland’s favorite Son’, widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland, for- ever memorialized Usquaebach in his poem ’Tam O’Shanter’ (1790) with the words, “Wi usquabae we’ll face the de’il” (or “with Usquaeabach we’ll face the devil”) This is a rare blend of whiskies aged 16, 17 and 18 years, combined with younger malts for a complex and rich Scotch whisky of uncompromising quality. This marriage of ‘Reserve’ whiskies offers layered hints of honeyed sherry notes, a very long finish and is rounded by sweet spices.
Spices & Rum A rum aged for 8 years in American oak barrels that is married with tropical spices. A spice-and-rum at 40% abv. Amber colour with golden highlights. Soft aroma, in the beginning dominated by the sweet spices like vanilla, later showing up notes of cloves.
Rounded body, with notes of wood and tropical fruits. Rather long finish with final taste of cinnamon.
