Aglianico del Vulture is the reigning king of red wines from Basilicata and this hearty expression
shows territory-driven aromas of slate and charcoal backed by mature fruit, tobacco and spice. The
mouth is greeted by intense flavors of raisin, figs and dried prunes.
This beautiful cold wave makes us stretch your hands in the pantry of red and here is the Nocte, the
other label’s flagship Land of Kings, whose first vintage was the 2004 full of surprises and passions
in Lucania as in Irpinia. Impressive in the first place great persistence and intensity of scents: even
opened the wine glass remains intact and firm on his positions even after a full day left in the glass
and this, as you know, is the first sign that launches a good product . The winemaker Sergio
Paternoster explanation map has wanted to focus on the pleasure also in the processing technique,
both with the harvest that night with cold maceration. We would say almost a fruit wine, yes, but well
away from minerality and tertiary to which we have become accustomed Aglianico del Vulture, but
really nice for fans of this type, in fact prevail jam of black cherry, ripe plum followed by the a
refreshing balsamic. Even in her mouth Nocte has a sweet entry, quite soft, Aglianico is revealed
above all, aside from the perky fresh and inexhaustible, the secret of all pleasure, even with present
tannins that make it able to cope with challenging combinations

Vigne Mastrodomenico, although being a relatively small outfit with a production of around 60,000 bottles a year, has 8 complex hectares of volcanic soil which have historically yielded grapes with the potential to create different styles of wine. About The Producer

Vigne Mastrodomenico is a small wine company based in Barile with vineyards at altitude in the commune of Rapolla. Donato and son Giuseppe produce an Aglianico del Vulture D.O.C. that is gaining recognition year on year for the complexity of flavour and all round quality that their wine displays. Vigne Mastrodomenico, with eight hectares of vineyard is certainly a boutique winery to watch

 

About The Wine

100% Aglianico del Vulture hand harvested in early October from eight hectares of vineyard. The resulting wine spends 8 months in oak before a further 4 months of refinement in bottle.

Tasting Notes

With a broad and complex bouquet, Likos is a richly textured wine with a firm tannic structure. On the palate there is an intense feeling of cherry and berry notes. The aroma is persistent and ends with a lovely note of liquorice. Further bottle ageing will see the wine develop softer tannins and a  more silky texture. Consequently this is a wine that can be cellared for up to 10 years.

The Mastrodomenico family have grown grapes for five  generations and have in the past shipped to large wineries in and out of Basilicata.  In 2004, Donato and Giuseppe decided to give it a try with their own label with just 1000 bottles being sold.

Vigne Mastrodomenico is the first Italian winery who has joined the European consortium and developed a pilot to trace all of their products from Vineyards to the bottle.  This means that different wines on different soil parameters are documented by Universities and companies and customers will be able through a QR code to read data such as date of harvest, how long the wine aged in wood, when it was bottled, what type of weather the year was like, and the track made by grapes from vineyard to cellar.  All data are collected by a wireless sensor networks spread all around the vineyard.

Grape Varieties 40 % Syrah, 30 % Grenache, 10 % Mourvèdre, 10 % Carignan, 10 % Cinsault.

Characteristics This wine has a pleasant pale pink robe with light orange tints. It’s frank nose of fresh violets and white peaches is confirmed in the mouth with a fresh and round finish, very pleasant and agreeable.

Soil Type Clayey and chalky with Southern Orientation.

Yield 45 hl / ha. Yield limitation through pruning short and selective pruning if necessary.

Maturing 5 months in vats on lees with a stirring frequency determi-nate by tastings made by the cellar master. No fining of the wine and tartaric acid stabilization through low temperature.

Amazingly, my tasting notes for the weaker version are exactly the same as for this sea facing monster. Except here the enormity has risen up by a significant factor, as has the intensity of each vital cog in its make-up. Perhaps the only change is the honey thread to the sweetness that pervades throughout. Otherwise, identical. A wonderous, take it with you when you die malt that is easily a contender for whisky of the year.

Jim Murray awarded The Ileach Cask Strength the number two position in the 2008 & 2009 World Whisky of the Year category in his Whisky Bible. This is judged from over 3,400 whiskies!

The Bisol family owns such marvellous hills in the extreme north of the province of Treviso close to the foothills of the Alps. International Rainbow Wine Festival, Chilliwack.

This is your chance to celebrate the world of wine at the 4th Annual International Rainbow Wine Festival.  This event is becoming a must go social event for Chilliwack residents.  The wine tasting is being held Saturday, September 29, 2012 from 7 to 10pm at the Chilliwack Best Western Rainbow Country Inn.

Remember this is an international event with over 100 great wines from around the world for you to sample, along with local and international beer, a table of fine Scotch, Ice Wine sculpture, live entertainment, lots of unique culinary treats and door prizes.  To top it all off, when you find that perfect wine, you should be able to buy it at a local wine store.

The cost is  $50 a person with some of the proceeds going to Rotary Internationals ‘End Polio Now’ campaign.  The world is a lot closer to eradicating this crippling and potentially fatal infectious disease thanks to Rotary International and its efforts since 1985.  Polio is now found in small pockets of a handful of countries and the world is close to eliminating it, just like what was done with Small Poxes.
